Menstrual Health Awareness Program

The Menstrual Health Awareness Program, led by SCODWES in partnership with the Desai Foundation, is a pioneering initiative designed to enhance the lives of women in the rural areas of Uttar Kannada and Haveri districts. The program is dedicated to improving menstrual health through education, accessibility, and stigma reduction.

Key Aspects of the Program:

Education on Menstrual Health: The program conducts workshops and informational sessions to educate women about their menstrual cycles, hygiene, and effective management. This education empowers women with the knowledge needed to make informed health decisions.

Access to Asani Pads: Participants receive Asani pads, an affordable and sustainable menstrual product. This initiative ensures women can manage their menstruation comfortably and with dignity, while also easing the financial burden of menstrual products.

Breaking Menstrual Stigma: The program actively works to dismantle the stigma surrounding menstruation by creating open spaces for discussion and education. This effort helps challenge and change cultural taboos, fostering a supportive and empowering environment for women.

Program Impact and Goals:

  • Awareness: By educating women and the wider community, the program aims to dispel myths and foster a more accurate understanding of menstruation, increasing overall awareness.

  • Health Improvement: The program focuses on improving the health and well-being of rural women by addressing issues related to poor menstrual hygiene and encouraging proactive health management.

  • Sustainable Solutions: The initiative promotes the use of Asani pads as a sustainable and economically viable solution for menstrual health, highlighting the importance of environmentally friendly and accessible menstrual products.

This program serves as a model for similar initiatives nationwide, demonstrating the positive effects of combining education, accessible resources, and stigma reduction to achieve comprehensive menstrual health.
